Researchers at Rhode Island Hospital and Brown Medical School have found that insulin was not only produced in the pancreas but also in production in the brain, and allegedly can increase your risk of Alzheimer's disease.
"What we found is that insulin not only produced in the pancreas, but also in the brain. And we found that insulin and other growth factors important for the survival of brain cells, contribute to the development of Alzheimer's, "said senior author M. Suzanne de la Monte, a neuropathologist at Rhode Island Hospital and a professor of pathology at Brown Medical School.
He further said that, "This raises the possibility of Type 3 diabetes."
Meanwhile, scientists have suspected a link between diabetes and Alzheimer's disease, this is the first study to provide evidence of the relationship.
In addition, some researchers have established that the decrease in production of insulin in the brain contributes to the degeneration of brain cells and the early symptoms of Alzheimer's.
